About Heather York

Dr. Heather York is an animal ecologist and nature photographer. She teaches science at Watkinson School, an independent high school in Hartford, Connecticut. Her research specialization in tropical bats and her interests in birds and insects go hand-in-hand with a deep appreciation for pollinators and plant-animal interactions. Having recently moved to wooded land in Cheshire, Heather and her family, including husband Walter Schwarz, are actively establishing plantings of native wildflowers to support native insects and the family’s honeybee hives. Many of the seeds and seedlings available on this site come from Heather’s plantings.
