About Walter Schwarz

Walter Schwarz is a Master Beekeeper from Cheshire, Connecticut. He learned the basics of beekeeping in 2006 from Dr. Chip Taylor at the University of Kansas. He earned his Master Beekeeper certification in 2012 through the Midwest Master Beekeeping Program, under the guidance of Dr. Marion Ellis at the University of Nebraska. Walter has a passion for teaching and has mentored dozens of new beekeepers in Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, and Connecticut. He is the secretary of the Connecticut Beekeepers Association, where he manages its mentorship program.


About Heather York

Dr. Heather York is an animal ecologist and nature photographer. She teaches science at Watkinson School, an independent high school in Hartford, Connecticut. Her research specialization in tropical bats and her interests in birds and insects go hand-in-hand with a deep appreciation for pollinators and plant-animal interactions. Having recently moved to wooded land in Cheshire, Heather and her family, including husband Walter Schwarz, are actively establishing plantings of native wildflowers to support native insects and the family’s honeybee hives. Heather leads Muzzle Buzz’s honey sales.
